Your community-driven magazine, offering tips, services for home abroaders, and unforgettable experiences.

Scott Mckenzie once sang, “If you're going to San Francisco / You're gonna meet some gentle people there”, and in such an iconic, colorful city, once known for hosting the hippie summer of love in 1967, there are so many things you can discover within its fog, colorful neighborhoods, and amazing views. Start your San Francisco journey with the city's most iconic landmark: the Golden Gate Bridge. This massive suspension bridge never fails to impress, whether you're walking, biking, or just taking photos. Head to Crissy Field for the best views to take a walk by the waterfront and the fog. Whether you’re on a date, traveling with family and kids, or solo, the California Academy of Sciences—a stunning museum with an aquarium, planetarium, and rainforest all under one roof is a must-see. You can also wander through the Japanese Tea Garden for some serenity.

Continue the next day with a trip to Alcatraz Island. The ferry ride is a treat in itself, offering incredible views of the city and the bay. The audio tour at the former prison is chilling and fascinating—be sure to leave plenty of time to explore the island. In the afternoon, make your way to Fisherman’s Wharf and enjoy some classic seafood at Boudin Bakery, known for its sourdough bread and clam chowder. Then, head to Pier 39 for a mix of shops, street performers, and sea lions basking in the sun. Another suggestion is exploring Chinatown, one of the oldest in the U.S; or spending the day at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), this place is an art lover's dream, with works from artists like Warhol, Matisse, and Kooning.

"If you're going to San Francisco Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair"

The Walt Disney Family Museum here is also a must-see for Disney fans. Take into consideration that San Francisco’s weather can change quickly, especially with that famous fog rolling in. Visit Lombard Street, known as the "crookedest street in the world, a famously winding, steep hill as a fun, unique experience. Last but not least, no trip to San Francisco is complete without a visit to the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory at Ghirardelli Square. This iconic spot, founded in 1852, be sure to grab a Ghirardelli Hot Fudge Sundae.

Take note that the city’s Muni buses and BART system are great ways to get around, but be prepared for some hills—San Francisco is known for them!
